How Long Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Take?
There are many benefits to working with an experienced chiropractor. Patients who come to our Temecula, CA office usually leave each visit experiencing remarkable pain relief, feeling much better overall. Regular patients enjoy their routine visits for adjustments, which helps promote long-term wellness and injury prevention.
Many people who are interested in chiropractic care wonder how long an average visit takes. We know your time is important to you, so we at Horst Chiropractic will go over some general adjustment times, as well as adjustment frequency and the duration of treatment plans.
The Length of an Average Visit
An initial chiropractic visit can take about 45 minutes or longer. This is because of the amount of time needed for reviewing medical history, discussion of current medical concerns, performing diagnostic procedures, and proceeding with an initial adjustment. These initial visits are thorough and give you a chance to build a rapport with your chiropractor.
Subsequent chiropractic adjustments will typically be shorter since the chiropractor has worked with you previously.
What Happens during the Chiropractic Adjustment
During a chiropractic visit, patients can expect the following:
- Discussion of Current Symptoms/Issues – Before making any adjustments, it’s important to go over your problems. If this is a subsequent chiropractic visit, we can discuss whether or not your symptoms have improved.
- Manual Adjustment to the Affected Joint(s) – After going over symptoms and pain, we can proceed with the manual manipulation of the joints. Typically, a chiropractor will adjust the spine, but other joints can be worked on, including the hips, knees, shoulders, and so forth. Soft tissues can also be treated through Active Release Therapy (ART).
- Additional Non-Manual Therapy – Some non-manual therapies may be performed at the practice if needed depending on the patient treatment plan.
- Discussion of Holistic Care – We can go over exercise, diet, and other lifestyle issues that can impact general wellness to help promote greater wellness between visits.
How Frequently Should I Schedule Adjustments?
This will depend on your injury or medical condition. Patients with active lifestyles that put a lot of stress on their bodies (e.g., athletes) may want to consider regular adjustments every week. This will help relieve pain and prevent injuries. Other patients whose lifestyles are not as active may benefit from chiropractic adjustments every other week or every month.
During the consultation process, we can discuss the ideal frequency of treatment that’s right for you and your needs.
How Long Before I Feel Results?
Most patients will notice some degree of pain relief after the first adjustment. Substantial improvements from chiropractic care will be apparent after a few visits.
How Long Should I Undergo Chiropractic Adjustment?
Again, this will vary from patient to patient. For patients simply seeking pain relief after a back or joint injury, several visits may be all that’s required. For patients whose bodies are often pushed to the limit, regular chiropractic adjustment may be a necessary part of sustaining their career and ability to perform.
We’d be more than happy to discuss your wellness goals in person. The Horst Chiropractic team is available to answer any questions you may have.
